Proton keeps your email private — which also means invoice tools can't get at it. Tailride Desktop reads your Proton inbox on your own computer, finds the invoices and receipts, turns email receipts into PDFs and sends them to Tailride, then on to your accounting software. Your Proton password and the rest of your mail stay where they are.

Why Proton inboxes are hard to automate

An auto-forward rule sends every matching email to someone else's inbox, including the ones that weren't invoices at all.

Search "invoice", open each email, save the PDF, rename it, upload it — every month, for every supplier.
How it works
Proton Mail Bridge is Proton's own app that lets programs on your computer read your mailbox. Tailride Desktop connects to Bridge right there on your computer — no one reads your mail from the outside.
01Install Proton Mail Bridge
Bridge is free from Proton for Mac and Windows. It needs a paid Proton plan (Mail Plus, Proton Unlimited or Proton for Business).
02Add Proton Mail in Tailride Desktop
Choose Proton Mail as a supplier and enter the password that Bridge shows you — not your Proton password. Tailride tests the connection straight away.
03Choose folders and a start date
Scan just the inbox, or pick specific folders and labels. You can also limit it to a list of senders you choose.
04Let it run
Tailride checks for new mail on its own schedule. Invoices it finds appear in your Tailride account and go on to your accounting software.
What Tailride does with your mailbox
Plainly, so you know what to expect.
- Reads your mail through Proton Mail Bridge on your own computer. Nobody logs into your Proton account from the outside.
- Looks only in the folders you choose. Trash, Sent, Drafts and Spam are always left alone.
- You decide which emails are worth opening: only senders you list, those senders plus any email with an attachment, or every email with an attachment.
- Email receipts without a PDF — Uber, Stripe, software subscriptions — are turned into PDFs on your computer.
- Each file gets a quick check on your computer first. Files that clearly aren't invoices are skipped; the likely ones are sent to Tailride, where the actual reading happens.
- Recognises the newer electronic invoice formats (Factur-X, ZUGFeRD, XRechnung).
- Remembers what it has already collected, so nothing is uploaded twice — even if you scan again.
- You choose how far back to go: just new mail, or your whole history from a date you pick.
- The Bridge password is kept in your computer's protected storage, the same place your Mac or PC keeps its own passwords.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a paid Proton plan?
Yes. Proton Mail Bridge, the Proton app that lets programs on your computer read your mailbox, is only included in paid plans (Mail Plus, Proton Unlimited, Proton for Business). Free Proton accounts can't use Bridge.
Does it work with Proton for Business and my own domain?
Yes. Any account that can run Proton Mail Bridge works, including business accounts and custom domains.
Does it work without Bridge, straight from the Proton website?
No. Bridge is the only way Proton lets other apps read your mail without giving up the encryption. Tailride never asks for your Proton password.
Does Tailride store my Proton password?
No. It only keeps the separate password that Bridge shows you, stored in your computer's protected storage. It is never sent to Tailride.
Can I limit it to one folder or label?
Yes. Choose exactly the folders to look in; Trash, Sent, Drafts and Spam are always left alone. You can also limit it to senders you list.
What about receipts that are only in the email itself, with no attachment?
Tailride turns the email into a clean PDF on your computer, so receipts from Uber, Stripe and subscription services are collected like any other invoice.
Does it run when I'm not using the app?
Yes — it runs from the menu bar or system tray whenever your computer is on, and catches up after the computer wakes from sleep. Bridge needs to be running too.
What about Gmail, Outlook or another mailbox?
Gmail and Microsoft 365 connect directly in Tailride, no desktop app needed. Proton Mail is the special case, because it can only be read on your computer through Bridge.
Where do I find the invoice for my own Proton subscription?
On the Proton website under Settings → Subscription → Invoices. Tailride can collect those too once they're in your inbox, but this page is about the invoices your suppliers send you.
